Holes of every size
Doorknob holes, fist and furniture holes, and large openings, rebuilt with the right backing so the patch does not flex.
Drywall and sheetrock repair
A doorknob through the wall, a crack that keeps coming back over the same doorway, a ragged hole the plumber left behind. Fort Collins Drywall Pros fixes all of it, and has been patching walls and ceilings in homes, rentals and businesses across Fort Collins since 2011. Repair is a large share of our 1,300-plus completed jobs, so we have seen nearly every way sheetrock can fail and what actually makes a patch last.
We work for homeowners, landlords, property managers and real estate agents getting a house ready to list or ready for inspection. Some jobs are a single patch behind a bedroom door. Others are a punch list of twenty dings, nail pops and cracks across a whole rental that has to be ready before the next tenant moves in on Saturday, patched, primed and ready for the painter.
What separates a drywall specialist from a quick fix is what happens after the patch goes in. We match your existing texture, feather the edges so the repair cannot be seen in side light, and contain the dust with plastic and HEPA vacuums while we work. You get a written price before we start, and we are licensed and insured in Fort Collins, Larimer County and Loveland.
What we fix
Doorknob holes, fist and furniture holes, and large openings, rebuilt with the right backing so the patch does not flex.
Cracks over doors, windows and seams, repaired with tape and setting compound instead of a skim of spackle that opens again in a month.
We re-fasten the board with screws beside the popped fastener, then fill and feather, instead of just covering the bump.
Torn face paper is sealed with a shellac or oil-based primer first. Mud over raw paper bubbles, which is why DIY fixes fail.
Dented or cracked outside corners are cut back and replaced with new paper-faced metal bead, straight and crisp.
Openings left by plumbers, electricians and HVAC techs are patched after their work passes inspection.
Honest scoping
Small holes up to a few inches get a flush patch over a backing clip or a California patch. Anything larger is cut back to a clean rectangle, fitted with wood backing and filled with a new piece of board screwed tight.
When the board is soft, crumbling, stained from a leak or cut up by several old repairs, patching again is wasted money. In that case we recommend replacing the section from stud to stud, and we will tell you so on the quote.
Local cause and effect
Most cracks we see are not bad drywall. They are the house moving, and a repair only lasts if it is built to handle that movement.
The Colorado Geological Survey calls expansive soil one of the state's most significant geologic hazards, and plenty of Fort Collins lots sit on it. As the soil wets and dries, foundations shift and diagonal cracks open at door and window corners.
Our humidity drops hard in winter, and framing lumber shrinks and swells with it. Joints that were taped tight in August can open by February, which is why we use paper tape and setting compound on crack repairs.
In many homes with trussed roofs, cold attics make the bottom chords bow upward in winter, pulling the ceiling away from interior walls. Those cracks close in summer. The fix is re-fastening and flexible corner treatment, covered on our ceiling repair page.
Cracks wider than about 1/4 in., cracks that keep growing, or cracks paired with sticking doors and sloping floors can point to foundation movement. We will tell you when a structural engineer should look first.
Our repair process
Floors and furniture are covered, and plastic goes up around larger repairs so dust stays in one spot.
Damaged board is cut to sound edges, and backing is added so the patch sits flush and solid.
New board is screwed in, then taped with setting compound that cures hard and shrinks far less than premixed mud.
Two or three thin coats are feathered 12 in. or more past the patch so it does not show as a bump in side light.
We sand with HEPA-filtered vacuum sanders, match your texture, and spot-prime so the patch takes paint like the rest of the wall.

Pricing factors
Drywall repair is priced by the visit and the work, not just the size of the hole. Here is what moves the number on a quote.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Number of repairs | Ten small patches in one visit cost far less per patch than one patch alone, because setup and drying time are shared. |
| Size and backing | A doorknob hole needs a patch. A two-foot opening needs framing backing, new board and more coats. |
| Texture | Smooth walls need the most careful feathering. Knockdown and orange peel need a matched texture, covered on our texture matching page. |
| Walls or ceilings | Overhead repairs take more setup, more protection and more time than wall repairs. |
| Paint | We leave repairs primed. If you want full-wall repainting, we coordinate with your painter or quote it separately. |
Choosing who to hire
A handyman can handle a single small hole on a smooth wall. The trouble starts with larger patches, textured walls and cracks that return, because those need drywall-specific tools and a feel for compound that comes from doing it every day.
We carry hopper guns for spray textures, setting compounds in several cure times and dust-extracting sanders. We also know Fort Collins housing, from 1950s plaster in Old Town to 2000s orange peel in the southeast subdivisions, so the patch matches what is already there.
Every repair includes cleanup. We vacuum, pull the plastic, and leave the room the way we found it, minus the hole.

FAQ
Straight answers to what people ask us most. Have a different question? Call or send a photo with the quote form.
It depends on the number of repairs, their size, the texture and whether they are on walls or ceilings. Grouping several repairs into one visit is the best way to lower the cost per patch. Send a photo and we will send a written price.
Most small repairs take two short visits because compound needs to dry between coats. With fast-setting compound we can often finish small patches in one day when you do not need to paint right away.
Yes. Knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, hand textures and smooth finishes are all routine. We test the texture on scrap board before it goes on your wall.
Not directly. Mud over torn, fuzzy paper absorbs water and bubbles. The paper has to be cut back and sealed with a shellac or oil-based primer before any compound goes on.
We prime every repair so it is ready for paint. If you have touch-up paint we can apply it to small patches, and for full walls we coordinate with your painter.
Yes. See our ceiling repair and plaster repair pages for how those jobs differ from wall patches.
